The private tour: your group, your pace
On the private Gray Line day you travel with your own guide and vehicle for about 8 hours. Instead of a coach timetable, the day follows your group. For families, small groups of friends and anyone who finds big group days tiring, that flexibility is the main reason to go private — and it is what several reviewers single out: their guide changed the plan, skipped stops or allowed more time where they wanted it.
One detail to read correctly: the product page still quotes last season’s gate rates. The fees you pay at the gates are the current SANParks rates — R515 per adult and R250 per child for the Cape of Good Hope section, R245 and R120 for Boulders Beach (international visitors, valid from 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2026). SANParks adjusts its fees every year on 1 November; the new rates had not been confirmed when this page was last checked.
The e-bike tour: Cape Point from the saddle
The African Eagle e-bike tour trades the bus window for an electric bike, over about 7 hours. It is the one tour on this site that includes the Cape Point (Cape of Good Hope) entry fee in the price. The title also promises a penguin colony visit, but the Boulders Beach entry is not listed among the inclusions — expect to pay it at the gate, and check the itinerary on the product page for how the penguin stop is arranged.
Expect a day with the minibus as well as the bike. Two reviewers, one in 2024 and one in 2020, expected more time in the saddle: one describes the day as a tour in a minibus followed by about an hour on the e-bikes. Another found that the ride simply followed the main road, together with the cars and buses. If cycling is the main reason you are booking, read the itinerary on the product page to see how the day is split between vehicle and bike.
The electric motor takes the sting out of the hills, but the peninsula is exposed: in summer the south-easterly Cape Doctor can make cycling hard work, and Cape Point itself is often cold and windy even when Cape Town is hot. A windproof layer and sun protection belong in your bag.
Which one fits you
- You want to set the pace and choose the stops: the private tour.
- You are travelling as a family or small group: the private tour, where the day follows your group.
- You would rather be active than sit in a vehicle: the e-bike tour, with the Cape Point entry included — bearing in mind that part of the day is spent in the minibus.
- The penguins are your priority: on the e-bike tour, check the Boulders stop in the itinerary; on the private tour, tell your guide. Our Boulders Beach guide has the details.
- You prefer a group day after all: the full-day tours are compared on our Cape Point tours page.

Before you go
Card for the gates: the SANParks gates are cashless. Baboons: chacma baboons live around Cape Point — keep food out of sight, especially on a bike, and do not feed them. Wind: the Cape Doctor blows hardest in summer; pack a windproof layer.
